Professor Aldo Nunez

Professor Aldo Nunez was raised in El Paso, Texas where he attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) to become a registered nurse. He’s been a critical care nurse for over 10 years and had the opportunity to work as a travel nurse throughout the southwest states. He started his Jiu Jitsu journey back in 2011 under professor Tatsuo Goya until 2020. He received his black belt in May 2023 by Professor Guilherme Correia. His travel nurse career offered him the chance to train under multiple World Champions and gain exposure to different teaching methods and competitive concepts and techniques.

Coach Oscar J Nunez

Adult BJJ Instructor

Coach Oscar J Nunez has lived in El Paso, Texas most of his life, where he also attended The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and acquired an Accounting Degree. He currently works for UTEP at The High School Equivalency Program helping others to attain their HSE. Oscar started his Jiu Jitsu journey back in 2011 under Professor Tatsuo Goya where he was at until 2018. He then switched to Carlson Gracie and received his Brown Belt in November 2020 and his Black Belt in May 2023 from Professor Guilherme Correia. During his Jiu Jitsu journey he has placed in IBJJF, ASBJJF, Grapple Fest, and local tournaments.

Coach Jorge Pompa

Kids BJJ Instructor

Coach Jorge Pompa is a 23 year old whom is a dedicated children’s coach with a passion for teaching Jiu Jitsu. He is currently pursuing his studies in forensic chemistry at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). As a varsity athlete throughout his life, he looks to combine his athletic background and educational experience to aid in creating an environment where kids can build confidence, physical fitness, and a strong sense of character.

Maria Pineda

BJJ Instructor

Maria Pineda was born and raised in El Paso, TX. She wrestled throughout high school and ranked at the district and regional level. Maria was given the opportunity to wrestle in college but decided to stay in El Paso to attend and receive her bachelor’s in biological sciences with a concentration of biomedical at the University  of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Later becoming a high school chemistry teacher. During that time, Maria discovered jiu jitsu beginning her training at Alliance in El Paso under Tatsuo Goya. Once she received her blue belt, Maria competed at local and high level tournaments such as NAGA, AGF, IBJJF, and ADCC Opens. In 2022 Maria transitioned to Black Sheep BJJ to  further her development in jiu jitsu. In 2023, she received her purple belt and continues to compete in both local and high level tournaments. As a dedicated instructor, Maria teaches a women’s jiu jitsu class and advocates for women’s self-defense, encouraging more women to train and build confidence through jiu jitsu . Maria also helps manage a women’s jiu jitsu an open mat program serving women across the Southwest.

Pedro Hernandez

MMA Coach

Pedro Hernandez, a native of Manhattan, New York, holds two Associate degrees, one in diesel technology and the other in medical assisting. He commenced wrestling at the age of nine and briefly participated in junior college wrestling before enlisting in the United States Army. In 2008, he transitioned to mixed martial arts, accumulating a record of 4-2 under Chamber MMA. However, he subsequently made the decision to discontinue his MMA career to prioritize family responsibilities. Presently, he dedicates himself exclusively to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with the aspiration of attaining a black belt in the future.
